Prostitution, abortion legislation, and hate speech: it doesn't get much more controversial! This presentation by ARPA's Legal Counsel André Schutten saw our biggest events ever in BC and Ontario last fall. Now its Alberta's turn. André hopes to explain, from a biblical perspective, not only why, but also how Christians should be able to engage on these three pressing issues. There will be opportunities for questions and debate as well as a brief update on ARPA’s work in our nation’s capital.

Over 40 representatives from ARPA chapters across Canada are making plans to meet in Ottawa on March 27 and 28 for meetings with MPs, Senators, and other government officials, as well as the second national ARPA conference. Thanks to the generosity of our readers, who have donated travel points, groups as far as Prince George and Smithers BC also plan to be represented.
Dr. Cornelis Van Dam will be addressing MPs and Senators on the evening of March 27 on the topic of multiculturalism. The transcript of his talk is being translated in French and will be distributed to as many MPs as possible. The invitations to MPs and Senators should be arriving in Ottawa soon. Later in February we will ask you, our readers, to personally invite your MP to come to this event. It makes a big difference when they hear from their constituents. That is how we get MPs and Senators who may not otherwise be interested in a Christian message.
We ask our readers to pray for God's hand of blessing on the many preperations being made. |
Proactive Politics: Prostitution, Free Speech & Abortion Laws
Defend hate speech, get rid of our prostitution laws and compromise on abortion! What’s ARPA Canada coming too?? Come on out to one of our fall presentations featuring ARPA Canada’s newest employee, Ontario Director and Legal Counsel André Schutten. André hopes to explain from a Reformed perspective not only why, but also how Christians should be able to engage on these three pressing issues: hate speech, prostitution and abortion laws and will do so in three short, to-the-point arguments. There will, of course, be opportunity for questions and debate as well as a brief update on ARPA’s work in our nation’s capital.

A provincial conference of the ARPA’s will follow on April 12 in Edmonton, at which over 20 ARPA reps will meet with MLA’s in the Alberta Legislature.

ARPA Surrey/Cloverdale will be featuring Chilliwack city councillor Ken Huttema at their upcoming event on Wednesday, April 13 at 8:00 pm.

If you live in BC's Fraser Valley or Alberta, be sure to check out these upcoming events featuring ARPA's director Mark Penninga and Reformed Perspective Editor Jon Dykstra March 14 and April 7-11. Topics include fertility rates, multiculturalism, and the Overton window.

The political decisions being made in Ottawa and Toronto can protect your basic freedoms or create a climate of fear where some subjects may not be talked about. They can encourage parental-based education of our youth or inculcate humanism and promote alternative sexual lifestyles. They can promote environmental stewardship or pantheistic environmentalism. They can encourage families and children or devalue the aged and weak. Will we watch our society make these choices from the sidelines, or will we put on our spiritual armour and engage in these important decisions?

Langley BC - January 17, 2011: Had enough of winter already? We are only just entering it. The entire western world is radically changing as a result of a rapidly declining fertility rate. An economic melt-down, stressed health-care system, and violent clashes over immigration and competing worldviews are just some examples of the big-picture consequences of society's choices. Now, more than ever, our world needs to hear the positive message that human life is a treasure.

Updated Information About ARPA's Upcoming Events in BC & Ontario
Grace & Truth in Canadian Politics and Launch of the Stand up For Freedom Canada Campaign
Christ exemplified a message of both grace and truth. How can we apply this to Canadian politics? This presentation by ARPA Canada's director Mark Penninga will include interviews with Canadian leaders to apply these principles to specific issues of the day.
The events will feature the launch of the Stand Up for Freedom Canada! campaign. Over the past decade we have seen examples of Christians, even within our own churches, who are brought before human rights commissions for writing, saying or doing something that they believe is right but that others believe is discriminatory or even hateful. ARPA Canada has been preparing a large new campaign with the purpose of educating the public about Canada’s human rights commissions and how they are increasingly replacing our fundamental freedoms (speech, conscience, religion etc) with a new set of demands that they call “human rights.”
BC Speakers: Mark Penninga with Neil Dykstra (a board member of ARPA Canada and editor of a leading internet blog on this issue)
Ontario Speakers: Mark Penninga with André Schutten (BA Hons, LLB - Tues, Wed, Thurs) and Scott Brockie (Christian businessman whose landmark HRC case first exposed others to the problems of the commissions - Monday and Friday).

This year's Deroche Retreat (Aug 29-Sept 2) has broadened to include non-students. The worldview training retreat on the beautiful Deroche grounds in BC's Fraser Valley has a reputation for quality instruction aimed at university-aged students from Reformed churches who desire to apply their faith to the disciplines they are pursuing. This year's instructor is Dr. Conrad van Dyk from Concordia University. Jon Dykstra (Reformed Perspective magazine) and Mark Penninga (ARPA Canada) will lead evening sessions. Registration can now be done online on the new Reformed Bible College website. Learn more about the retreat here.
