Biblical Worldview
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." 2 Tim 3:16
The Bible provides a worldview which necessarily impacts every sphere of life, including politics. A Christian influence in law and politics does not mean that we are mixing church and state. The institution of the church and the state need to be separate. But that is very different from separating religion from politics. Every political decision is guided by a worldview. The question is -- which one? Will it be the religion of secular humanism? Or will it be the liberating message of the Bible?

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you..." - Jeremiah 1:5
The Bible teaches us that humanity is created in the image of God which means that we all possess value and dignity regardless of our physical or mental abilities. Life is a gift that must be treated with respect and true compassion. Being pro-life is about more than fighting abortion or euthanasia. It is about celebrating life as it was meant to be lived – in praise to our Maker.

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established." - Romans 13:1
The state is a huge institution in Canada. It has become responsible for almost every aspect of our lives. But should it be this way? What should our governments be responsible for? How should our electoral system work? These are some of the issues being looked at in this section.

Marriage and Family

"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure...." - Hebrews 13:4
The institutions of marriage and the family are vital to the well-being of our society. Unfortunately Canada seems to be neglecting marriage and the family rather than strengthening it. Now, more than ever, Christians can witness to the importance of marriage and family as God intended these institutions to be.

Sexuality

"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity...." - Ephesians 5:3
Sexuality is a gift from God, to be used for His glory. Of all gifts, perhaps this one has been the most misused and perverted since the Fall into sin. This is apparent in the way that our Parliament and courts have dealt with sexuality as well. We have an obligation to show the world what a blessing sexuality can be when it is used in conformity with God's intentions - lovingly between one man and one woman who are committed to each other for life in marriage.

"...what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done" - Psalm 78:3-4

"Six days you shall labour and do all your work...." - Exodus 20:9
Our labour, and how we spend our finances, can function as an important part of fulfilling our cultural mandate. In Genesis 1 God commanded us to develop the earth and rule over it. We work to glorify God - not just to put food on the table. Our work, finances, and all material possessions come from God and are meant to be directed towards Him.

"You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas." - Psalm 8:6-8
Canada, and much of the world, is in a frenzy about global warming. Not a day goes by that we don't hear about it. Our secular society believes humanity is in charge of its own destiny and has to save ourselves from impending disaster. In contrast, the Bible comforts us with the assurance that God is always watching over His creation. But that does not promote indifference. On the contrary, we have a calling to fulfill our mandate as stewards of the earth.

"So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.... the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." - Galatians 5:16,22
We have been given everything we possess from God and are called to be stewards of these things. Our bodies, finances, and possessions etc., are not meant to be misused. When we exercise good stewardship we will experience life in all its richness. This good news needs to be heard by our society which looks to one fix after the other to pursue an ever-elusive fulfillment.

Justice, Liberty, and Freedom
"For the LORD is righteous,
he loves justice...." - Psalm 11:7
Everybody treasures freedom and wants justice. But what standard should be used to define justice? What limits must be set on our freedoms? Increasingly our courts are trying to make decisions apart form morality - resulting in a society that is tolerant of all things except objective standards of right and wrong. True freedom does not come from ignoring the objective truths that God set, but in living in accordance with them.

Aboriginal Affairs
( 6 Articles )
Few political issues are as difficult as those involving Canada's aboriginal peoples. Since 1701 there have been efforts to peacefully co-exist with aboriginals in what has become Canada. Although treaties have been made in various places and times, there are still ongoing negotiations and many claims remain unsettled.
In general, aboriginal people struggle with poor health and living conditions, a staggering suicide and crime rate, and substance abuse. There is much brokenness.
Both Canada's governments and the aboriginal peoples themselves must take steps to resolve these long-standing issues. It will take time, but with accountability and responsibility, progress can be made to improving the lives of the aboriginal peoples of Canada.
