Pro-Life

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you..." - Jeremiah 1:5
The Bible teaches us that humanity is created in the image of God which means that we all possess value and dignity regardless of our physical or mental abilities. Life is a gift that must be treated with respect and true compassion. Being pro-life is about more than fighting abortion or euthanasia. It is about celebrating life as it was meant to be lived – in praise to our Maker.

Mr. Stephen Woodworth stood on Thursday afternoon to present his Motion 312 to the House of Commons. He argued passionately and clearly that any law that says some human beings are not human beings is unjust. He called for a committee to re-evaluate our current law that says humans only become human at the moment they complete exit their mother’s womb. That definition, he states, is based on medical evidence that is 400 years old.

“If society helps people who are being bullied then they should help unborn babies too. Because abortion is almost the exact same thing as bullying except it is to babies and it is a matter of life and death.” - 10 year old Chelsea’s words to Prime Minister Harper
(Mark Penninga, www.ARPACanada.ca, April 26 2012): It all started with a sermon. Chelsea, age ten, sat in the pews of the Aldergrove Canadian Reformed Church with her family as she has done for much of her life. But the message delivered that day left a mark on her heart that has moved her to bring the cause of the unborn to the highest authority in Canada.
“I was aware of abortion, but had never thought about doing anything about it prior” she noted in an interview with ARPA Canada.

ARPA Note: We provided a 12 page submission to this committee, urging them to see the dangers of euthanasia and assisted suicide. It is a sad and troubling day when our authorities urge the Attorney General to ignore the law and turn a blind eye to euthanasia. Please consider writing a letter to the editor of your local paper. You are welcome to borrow arguments from our submission.
Montreal Gazette, March 22 2012: A committee of the Quebec National Assembly unanimously recommended Thursday that rules be established to shelter from prosecution doctors who offer terminally-ill patients “medical assistance to die.” The Criminal Code of Canada prohibits euthanasia, making it an offence to counsel or assist someone to commit suicide, or to agree to be put to death. But the committee, composed of members from all parties in the assembly, has proposed that Quebec’s attorney general issue a directive so that doctors who help someone die, provided they respect a series of conditions Quebec would legislate, would not be prosecuted. DVD review by Jonathon VanMaren (www.reformedprolifer.com): Generally, people don’t like a story where all the main characters die. However, that is precisely the point of a new HBO documentary entitled How to Die in Oregon, which traces the lives—and deaths–of a number of people after the passage of Oregon’s notorious 1994 assisted suicide, or “Die with Dignity” law.
The documentary begins with a morbid scene of a volunteer from an assisted suicide group called “Compassion and Choices” asking an old man surrounded by his family two questions: “You know you have the right to change your mind?” and “Do you know what this medication will do to you?” The man answers gruffly that he wants do die, and affirms that he knows he is choosing suicide. The scene closes morbidly as the man breathes his last.
This documentary is a perfect example of how those who reject biblical truth are selling their message to the next generation. Keep reading |
JAN. 19 - (Ilse VanderMeulen - www.ARPACanada.ca): CTV News journalist Jon Woodward recently investigated two Pregnancy Care Centres in the lower mainland of BC. The news item was broadcasted last night and claimed that the Centres are exaggerating the health risks of abortions when they talk to clients. The risks discussed were ranging from breast cancer to depression to fetal body parts forgotten inside the womb. Medical experts interviewed by Woodward do not deny the health risks, but call them ‘rare’ in Canada.

Update (Jan 30, 2012): ARPA Canada's Legal Counsel André Schutten was interviewed by Capital News Online about this issue. Read their coverage here.
The media has been all over the issue of sex-selection feticide in the last couple of days, and thankfully so. Dr. Rajendra Kale, editor-in-chief of the Canadian Medical Association Journal, published an editorial on Monday calling for doctors to not reveal the gender of their unborn baby to women until after 30 weeks. Dr. Kale argues, “a few of them [Asian immigrants] also imported their preference for having sons and aborting daughters. Female feticide happens in India and China by the millions, but it also happens in North America in numbers large enough to distort the male to female ratio in some ethnic groups.”

ARPA Note: Be sure to send Mr. Woodworth (stephen.woodworth@parl.gc.ca) a thank-you note for standing up for the unborn.
Globe and Mail, Dec 21 2011: An Ontario Conservative MP says Parliament must take another look at whether unborn babies deserve to be treated as human beings, a move that could ultimately challenge the ability to terminate pregnancies with abortion.
Stephen Woodworth, the member for Kitchener Centre, said in a news release Wednesday that a majority of Canadians wrongly believe the law protects the fundamental human rights of children before birth in the later stages of gestation. “In fact, the opposite is true,” Mr. Woodworth says in his release. “Canadian law provides no human rights protection whatsoever for children before the moment of complete birth.” Keep reading |
