Globe and Mail, August 3 2011: The Supreme Court of British Columbia has granted a dying woman's application for an expedited trial to decide if she can legally commit suicide. Madam Justice Lynn Smith said she recognized the urgency of the situation facing Gloria Taylor, a B.C. woman who is dying of Lou Gehrig's disease. Justice Smith told Joseph Arvay, a lawyer for the B.C. Civil Liberties Association that she would speed up the legal process as he had requested on Ms. Taylor's behalf. Keep reading
